OUR TEAM IS AWARDED A GENEROUS GRANT !

The Billon lab receives a grant from the Alberta Cellular Therapy and Immune Oncology (ACTION) Initiative!

We are honored to receive three years of funding from the Alberta Cellular Therapy and Immune Oncology (ACTION) Initiative!

The ACTION Initiative develops next-generation therapies for cancers of children and adults using immune cells that are engineered to recognize and kill cancer cells. Our lab will deploy our powerful cutting-edge genome editing technologies to engineer next-generation immunotherapies for the benefit of cancer patients in Canada.

This generous Grant is a recognition of the high-quality work and commitment of our lab members! Congratulations to everyone. Now, let's put our ideas into ACTION!

NAVNEET JOINS OUR LAB!

We are excited to announce that Navneet has started her PhD in our lab!

Navneet completed her Master's at Bangalore University, where she graduated with "First Class Exemplary" and received a Gold Medal for her performance! Navneet recently worked as a Project Assistant in The Department of Biological Sciences at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. Navneet's impressive work has resulted in a first-author paper! Read her article here.

In the lab, Navneet is studying DNA repair and developing innovative new technologies. Stay tuned to hear more about her future discoveries and inventions!

The lab​ will attend the 5th Canadian Symposium on Telomeres & Genome Integrity

The lab members will participate in the Canadian Symposium on Genome Stability, with Karlseder and Greenberg as keynote speakers! The meeting is organized in the beautiful village of Canmore in Alberta!

THE LAB IS ONE YEAR OLD

This month the lab is celebrating its first year of existence!

Over the past 12 months, we have already achieved many milestones (1 paper published, 1 patent deposited, 1 paper submitted), built a functional lab to conduct exciting research, and we have recruited the best people to join us in Calgary.

UCALGARY ANNOUNCES FUNDRAISING OWN.CANCER CAMPAIGN

The new world-class Calgary Cancer Centre will open in 2023!

The largest Canadian Cancer Centre will open in Calgary at the Foothills Medical Center, where the lab is located! This comprehensive cancer centre will revolutionize cancer treatment by improving prevention, detection and building the capacity to treat cancer patients, increase clinical trials and research space!

THE FIRST PAPER OF THE LAB IS PUBLISHED!

We are thrilled to share that the first paper of the lab has been published in Methods in Enzymology!

In this paper, we provide a point-by-point protocol of the DTECT technology to detect genomic signatures from human diseases or genome editing experiments! We also illustrate the protocol with the capture of prime editing in human cells!

THE LAB WELCOMES JETHRO AND SANCHIT!

We are excited to announce that Jethro and Sanchit have started in the lab!

We are thrilled to announce that Jethro has started his Master's in our lab!

Jethro was working as a Research Associate in The Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada in Prince Edward Island. He previously graduated from Stellenbosch University in South Africa, where he completed his B.Sc in Genetics. Jethro's impressive work has resulted in two first-author papers! We are also welcoming Sanchit to the lab for his undergrad thesis!

Sanchit is an undergraduate student in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at the Schulich School of Engineering of the University of Calgary. Sanchit has impressive leadership with multiple volunteering and entrepreneurial activities! He has received numerous awards for his leadership and creativity.

JEREMIE JOINS THE LAB!

We are excited to announce that Dr. Fages ​has joined our lab as a Postdoc!

Jérémie has completed his Ph.D. in Toulouse, France in the laboratory of Dr. Didier Trouche/Dr. Yvan Canitrot where he studied the mechanisms that maintain genomic integrity. He published an exciting discovery about the role of JMJD6 in the maintenance of ribosomal DNA integrity in response to DNA damage: Read his article.

In the lab, Jérémie is interested in studying the mechanisms that regulate the DNA damage response using modern genome editing technologies!

PIERRE IS PRESENTING AT THE CANADA INNOVATES 2021 ORGANIZED BY NEB!

Pierre will be speaking at the first Canada Innovates presented by NEB!​ He will present a new detection platform recently developed for rapid routine COVID-19 variant diagnostics!

MAHNOOR AND NILOY JOIN THE LAB FOR THE SUMMER!

We are excited to announce that Mahnoor Khan and Niloy Nath have started their summer research experience in the lab! 

Mahnoor was a 4th-year Biological science student at the University of Calgary. Niloy was in the final year of his undergraduate degree in the Bachelor of Health Sciences Program at McMaster University. Mahnoor and Niloy will be with us for 4 months!

LOU JOINS THE LAB

We are excited to announce that Lou Baudrier has joined the lab as a Lab Manager!

Lou was previously at the prestigious The Rockefeller University where she studied the metabolism of cancer cells. She has published several high impact articles in Nature, Nature Cell Biology, Cell Metabolism, PNAS and Science Advances!

With her leadership and managerial skills, Lou will manage the lab and help students and postdocs.

Lou will also use her important scientific skills and knowledge to tackle important questions related to the link between cellular metabolism and DNA repair using modern genome editing technologies!
